Susan Brewer

For over two decades, I have worked out of my studio in the historic Stutz Building in downtown Indianapolis. As an abstract expressionist, I create large-scale canvases and works on paper designed for both residential and commercial environments. I also offer commissioned pieces, collaborating directly with clients to develop original artwork that aligns with the energy and purpose of a specific space.

My creative process is intuitive and layered—rooted in imagination, dreams, and meditation. Each composition emerges through a dynamic buildup of color, texture, and form, using a visual language I’ve cultivated over time. My work explores the human experience, reflecting on our connection to the world, to others, and to ourselves.

Each painting is a snapshot of presence—an emotional and energetic moment that invites personal interpretation and connection from the viewer.

In addition to my studio practice, I served as curator for the Evan Lurie Gallery during its final four years, until its closing in August 2021. In 2022, I returned to help establish a new gallery in the same space under the direction of Jason O'Neil, owner of Circle Real Estate. Curating has deeply influenced my art, as conversations around creativity often evolve into meaningful inspiration for my own work.
